Bullying

Bullying sucks! You probably already know what bullying is but I'll go over it in brief: Bullying is when you harm someone continuously by physical or verbal means. Physically bullying can be pushing, grabbing, beating up, getting in or messing with the victims personal space etc. Verbal bullying can be insulting, harassing, threatening etc. the victim. Bullying is wrong and unacceptable in many people's opinions including mine. But some people beside the bullies think bullying is perfectly acceptable and some of these people are adults but before I go onto that here's a sad video nobody coming to help out a kid getting bullied.

Okay why the video sad? Well one nobody was helping the big kid on the left named Casey Heynes not get bullied everyone was just standing there including the guy recording. Another thing is the bully the small kid on the left named Richard Gale was bullying Casey. The last thing that's really sad is the situation got violent sure the victim won over the bully but did this really have to happen? Someone could have got a teacher to stop the bully from going so far that Casey the victim flipped him over.

But anyways some really stupid, ignorant small minded people think bullying is okay because "It prepares your for the real world." That's completely WRONG. Bullying does nothing to prepare you for the real world it's just a way to get abused. In fact bullies are part of the real world people say their preparing you for! Some people also think bullying isn't a big deal or that it's just a part of life. Okay let me say this what's so normal about being picked on/abused? What's so normal about being afraid to go to school or wherever else you're getting bullied? What's so normal about that? Nothing that's what! Some people also have never been bullied so it can't just be a part of life either. I'm guessing the people who agree with this garbage haven't been bullied themselves or haven't been bullied badly enough.

Some people believe the if someone gets bullied it's their fault. That they have to just "toughen up" somehow either by working out, learning martial arts, getting some friends to defend them etc. Well it's not their fault I mean it's hard to work out and you shouldn't have to do all that stuff just to stop being picked on.

Finally another misconception about bullying is all you have to do to stop it is punch the bully in the face or just beat them up. Well that's just crap and here's why:

1. The bully is tougher than you in some way (mentally, physically etc.) that's how they were able to bully you in the first place! If you punch them or try to beat them up they'll probably punch back or beat you up.
2. It makes you look like the bad guy. Other bystanders may not see the person is bullying you but if you punch them that's a much more noticeable action.
3. You could get in trouble with the school staff for hurting a bully. Yeah. Even if they deserved it if your the one that hits them and a teacher see's only that you're considered at fault.

I'm thinking people suggest these crappy methods of dealing with the bully because well that's what they had to do as a kid schools were more dangerous back in the mid 20th century and before. It was common that people would just fight things out in school. Also people might suggest these method because telling the teacher doesn't work and this has happened before. Schools have neglected their students before. Well when this happens you're supposed to take your child out of the school without notice and call the police right away to take legal action such as suing the school. You can't just keep sending your kid to a dangerous place right?

I've been bullied before a lot from elementary, to middle, even too high school but I only got bullied a little bit in high school. Only 2 times did someone stand up for me and I think it was pretty sad that people just didn't care about me. In fact I think it's sadder that nobody stood up for me than actually getting bullied. So if you see someone getting bullied stand up for them! If you're too afraid to get involved you can tell a teacher about the bullying and assuming you go to a good school they'll help out. Ways that you can stand up is telling the bully to stop, getting the victim away from the bully, or even yanking the bully out of the way. If only kids stood up for other people more often.

Forced Education

Forced Education is something I feel is very wrong. It's not cool,it's not effective, it's not right. But most adults and sometimes children nod yes to forced education. They think it's right for the government to tell them and other people where to go, how to learn, and how to spend their time. I say education is the right of anybody but it is certainly not the right of people to force an education on someone no matter how good and important it may be!

An excuse for forced education is that children don't know what's good for them. Well I say how is locking a child in a warehouse called "a school" good for them? How is not letting them having the choice to choose to go to school good for them? America claims to be a country of freedom yet the government forces a crummy education on it's young citizens and the American society... Does nothing about it. That's sad. Kids need to grow, play, spend time with their families etc. and our school systems take away this basic need away. Children do boring, unengageing assignments in school that will do little to nothing to help them in their career if they get a career at all. America ranks 18th in education out of 36 countries as of 2008. Has forcing children to get an "education" really done what's it's intended to do? I think not!

Children are supposed to learn what they want to learn not what the government wants them to learn. If they have fun learning chances are they'll get a good job they really want with their education but that's not the way it is. We are learning what the state wants us to learn and it's not giving us the ability to get the jobs WE WANT. There are 98,817 public schools and 4084 colleges in America and we're still behind. It doesn't matter how many facilities you build it's the system that counts!
People say nobody would go to school if it wasn't forced by the government but that isn't true. There are lots of people who want an education who would go to school whether it's forced or not. Plus parents could still make their kids go to school plus with all the pressure from society to get a necessary education if think the number of people going wouldn't change much. I here this a lot that society wouldn't run well if school wasn't compulsory but is it a person's job to help run society? Does society have the right to make people run it? I think not! We have our rights if I don't want to go to school that's bad for me and me only. No one has the right to make me go to school except my parents. People are not born to be forced to help other people.
This is my really simple list why people shouldn't have an education forced on them.

1. It's against your will: You have the right to live your life the way you want to. Society and the government doesn't have the right to control your life!
2. It takes up your free time: You could be helping your community, reading a book you actually like, you could be learning at your own pace off the internet or from a book or from a friend, you get a job but you're forced to spend your time in a concrete building for 7-8 hours a day. How fun is that?
3. It forces you into a social enviroment: School is basically a prison, you're forced to be around people you may not like and you shouldn't have too. Not to mention a possibly dangerous environment with potential bullies and teachers and other staff members that may be abusive.
4. The education system in America sucks: Let's face it education in America sucks. Kids aren't learning what they want, our country is low ranking, and schools aren't that safe.

So there you have it why I think forced education is wrong. I don't think it should exist anywhere but since I live in America if I can stop it I can only stop it there and that's where you come in. I want anybody who reads this and supports my cause to help me stop this great injustice that society ignores. I want you to spread the word to anybody you can that mandatory/forced/compulsory education is wrong! Also to try and stop it I want you to write/call congress to tell them that the law needs to be changed here's their web address http://www.contactingthecongress.org/ . You could write an article or a blog on it like I'm doing right now. Another thing you could do is write to education reform groups and one of the coolest things you can do is PROTEST! I don't know who to organize a protest but you can probably learn how to do that from Google.
I really want to make a difference in the world and this is one way I can do it. May the people of America and anyone who reads this blog make education better and this country freer.
